BC High School Ultimate Championships 2017 – Registration Now Open!

BC Ultimate has opened registration for its annual BC High School Ultimate Championships (formerly known as BCJUC), to be held on May 27 & 28, 2017 at Newton Athletic Park in Surrey, BC.

Up to 80 teams will compete in Senior and Junior divisions. With the growth of ultimate at the junior/high school level, we expect strong demand for spots at this event, and 2017 should set a record for both the # of teams attending and the # of school represented at the event.

2017 Alpha Coaching Announcement – tryout registration now open

BC Ultimate’s Alpha Club Junior teams are pleased to announce the selection of their coaching staff and the opening of registration for the 2017 tryouts.

Alpha Women’s Team

Head Coach – Troe Weston

Troë started playing ultimate at SFU and has since played on several high-level competitive teams including Zephyr, Traffic, Union and Team Canada. Troë has in the past coached SFU women’s team, Zephyr and a number of junior club teams. Troë is currently a regional coach for Team Canada, coach of the junior A team at Stratford Hall High School, and a member of the coaching staff for the Vancouver Riptide. She is returning to Alpha, where she was part of the coaching staff in 2016.

Assistant Coach – Alistair Robb

Alistair hails from Scotland where he was Captain and then Coach for the University of Dundee ultimate team. This spring Alistair has joined the Vancouver Riptide and has been coaching at the VUL spring bootcamp.

 

Alpha Men’s Team

Head Coach – Peter Yu

Peter has previously captained both the UBC Men’s Ultimate team and the Canadian U-23 Open team; he is a long time member of Furious George. Peter’s coaching experience includes coaching the Junior and Senior Ultimate teams at Eric Hamber Secondary​, as well as being part of the 2016 ​Alpha ​Men’s team coaching staff.

Assistant Coach – Brayden Gee

Braydon started playing in the Misfit program, moved on to UBC and Team Canada U23. He currently playing with the Vancouver Riptide. He has previously coached with David Thompson Secondary and the Misfit program for Uprise, Mischief and for the past 2 years, Misfit.

Assistant Coach – Edward Guo

Edward has played for Mischief, UBC, Furious George and Team Canada U23. Edward’s coaching experience includes high school teams with Churchill and Steveston-London and club teams Mayhem and Rolling Thunder.

 

Open Tryouts (Men’s & Women’s)

NCCP Coaching Clinic (Competitive Stream) – March 25-26

BC Ultimate is pleased to announce there will be a coaching clinic for ultimate players looking to complete their NCCP certification for: Ultimate Competition – Introduction. This course will take place on the weekend of March 25 & 26, 2017 from 12:00pm-6:00pm at Stratford Hall School.

Note that Ultimate Canada is now requiring that all Junior teams attending the 2017 Canadian Ultimate Championships must have at least 1 coach with the NCCP coaching designation.

Ultimate Competition – Introduction: Designed for coaches 16+ years of age who work with U18 competitive players (e.g. high school competitive programs, competitive junior programs) or adult developmental teams programs. The participants will understand learning styles and appropriate feedback through hands on activities. They will learn how to identify and correct common Ultimate errors, and how to lead drills for Ultimate.
