In an effort to show off some of the people doing some wonderful things for the British Columbia Ultimate Society (BCUS) we’re going to be doing profile of some of the individuals involved with us. This time our GM, Troë Weston!

Where do you live in BC?
Grew up in Kelowna, now I live in Vancouver

What’s your position on the board?
General Manager

What made you want to join the board?
I really enjoy sports administration and I enjoy Ultimate. I have experience in both areas and I wanted to provide some stability for a society that is just starting to get it’s legs underneath them. There is a lot of potential for the BCU do to great things for Ultimate in this province, and I want to help pave the way for that.

What’s the best part of being on the board?
Being able to act on ideas I have to improve/grow Ultimate in BC.

What do you do in “real life” when you’re not making Ultimate in BC better?
I recently got licensed as a Realtor with Re/Max, so I am currently building my business. I am really enjoying it so far.

How did you start playing Ultimate?
I was introduced to the sport at University (SFU) and I’ve been playing ever since!

How are you involved with Ultimate right now?
I have captained a touring team, Zephyr, for the past 3 years and I play in the Vancouver Ultimate League every year.

What’s your favorite spirit game?
Ultimate Ninja.

You wouldn’t show up to the field without _____?
My cleats and my water bottle 🙂

Favorite Ultimate moment?
The first year I made Zephyr.

If you could only throw one throw for the rest of my life it would be a ______?
Low release IO flick

Where do you live in BC?
Vancouver

What’s your position in the BCUS?
Youth Ultimate Development Program Grant Administrator

What made you want to join the BCUS?
I believe that the people involved with the BCUS have common goals and objectives that I support and would like to be a part of the movement towards them.

What’s the best part of being in the BCUS?
The experience I’ve been gaining is invaluable – as a recreation professional, the work that I am doing with the people I interact with is helping me with great skill development. It is also a lot of fun working in the Ultimate community; I’m paid to do what I love!

What’s the one skill you bring to the BCUS that no one else has?
I am able to get ideas and strategies running at an operational level.

What’s your favorite contribution you’ve made while you’ve been on the board?
Running BCUC 2013 and developing a Starter Pack manual for the Youth Ultimate Development Program.

What do you do in “real life” when you’re not making Ultimate in BC better?
I work for the Vancouver Park Board and the Vancouver Nighthawks.

How did you start playing Ultimate?
My dad brought home a “real disc” home from MEC. I was rather annoyed that it wasn’t like the big O-ring I was used to throwing around, but I got the hang of it and was eventually invited out to some pickup by a friend.

How are you involved with Ultimate right now?
I’ve captained numerous teams, and I have planned various parties and events from the Vancouver Ultimate League all the way to the Canadian Ultimate Championships.

What’s your favourite spirit game?
Disc Jousting. I’m spirited, but I am incredibly competitive.

You wouldn’t show up to the field without _____?
Thick socks. Blisters are the enemy.

Favourite Ultimate moment?
I ran from one endzone into the other and slid feet first to catch the low throw which was a huge outside-in huck. My plan was to call a timeout when I caught the disc, which I did. I didn’t realize that I actually scored the point, and didn’t understand why my teammates were rushing over to congratulate me when the game was still “going on”. We talked about that point for the rest of the season.

A really swilly thumber
