Flowerbowl 2015 Cancelled, women’s division to carry on

BC Ultimate regrets that due to lack of field space, the Open division of Flowerbowl 2015 has been cancelled. Field construction at UBC along with loss of fields to the FIFA Women’s World Cup has made hosting a large event that weekend impossible.

In it’s place, BCU will host a Women’s-only tournament on the weekend of June 6 and 7. The event will be capped at a maximum of 16 teams. We hope to host two divisions – Elite and Recreational. This will be dependant on the teams who enter.

We are asking that interested women’s teams to fill out this form;

BCU will keep all interested teams informed about registration and will work with teams to create a schedule that will benefit everyone.

Udderbowl – Tournament Wrapup

Participants had a great time at the 19th annual Udderbowl tournament in Nanaimo on March 28th and 29th.  The rain held off most of the weekend and all 15 teams enjoyed the delicious field food.

Palm Babes and Bros from Vancouver beat Ninja Cowboy Bear from Victoria in the Competitive Pool championships, while BABR from Seattle beat Formal Fridays from Victoria for the Spirit Pool title. In addition, Milk Maids and BABR (both from Seattle) won the Spirit Prize for the Competitive and Spirit Pools, respectively. It seems like Seattle teams know how to have fun!

The Saturday night party was also a success, where the inaugural mini indoor “cups” (frickets) game was very popular and the dance floor was packed with people moving to the tunes of DJ All Good.

Mark your calendar for April 2nd and 3rd, 2016 to experience the fun next year!

Whistler 5 on 5 is BC’s fastest growing tournament! The tournament started in 2013 with 13 teams and expanded to 20 teams in 2014. This year it’s looking like 20+ teams, which means the tournament could cap out. This includes teams so far from Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, Kamloops, Nelson and Victoria.

It all happens May Long Weekend (May 16-17th). Here are 5 awesome reasons to play Whistler 5 on 5:

  • 5 on 5 ulty is really fun. It’s fast paced, you sub on the fly, and you touch the disc a lot.

  • It’s cheap and easy.

The $53/person* registration fee covers:

      • 7-8 games
      • Your own disc
      • Lunches on Sat and Sun and other delicious field food.

Optional $40/night hostel deal covers:

      • A cozy bed for sleeping
      • Homemade breakfasts on Sat and Sun!

  • The beauty of the mountains. Watching the disc fly against the backdrop of the Pacific Coastal Mountains is just awesome.
