Gathering of Communities 2024

Ultimate Spirit was fortunate to recently be invited to plan a week of Ultimate related immersive programing by the Líl̓wat, Xet̓ólacw Community School for their students. The foundation of our plan was to bring communities together.

We visited the BC Sport hall of fame, were guided through the Indigenous sport gallery, and were treated to

Lara Mussell Savage sharing her story as an Indigenous female Ultimate athlete and her life journey in sport.

WSÁNEĆ and Líl̓wat Nations gathered for the second time and this inaugural tournament hosted by Líl̓wat was named Saq̓w I Pqúsa (Flying Eagles) by the participants at the Xet̓ólacw Community School.

Traffic (an elite Vancouver Ultimate team) wanted to host all of the WSÁNEĆ and Líl̓wat participants for an open practice and community feast continuing to build their ongoing relationship.

An aspect of Ultimate Spirit’s vision is transformational connections. Have a look at the photo book from the week here to see that it is truly happening!

2023 Year in Review

For the Ultimate Spirit community, 2023 was a year of great connection. Connections were built and strengthened through Ultimate Spirit sessions with W̱SÁNEĆ, Lil’wat, Stz’uminus, Fort Nelson, Nlaka’pamux, and Stó:lō. Ultimate Spirit participants from W̱SÁNEĆ and Lil’wat travelled to New Jersey to attend an Ultimate Peace camp, connecting with other ultimate players and coaches from around the USA, Columbia, and the Middle East. W̱SÁNEĆ STELḴȺȺYE hosted a gathering, welcoming participants from Lil’wat and Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw as well as players from the University of Victoria and Traffic Ultimate. Players from the UVic ultimate team arranged for a second annual Halloween event with W̱SÁNEĆ STELḴȺȺYE.

These few sentences hardly begin to capture the countless smiles shared, discs tossed, and connections made in the Ultimate Spirit community over the past year – so we’ve put together a visual record to share the memories. Click here to check it out!
