Flower Bowl moves to Victoria

Starting in 2024 Flower Bowl, one of the longest running ultimate tournaments in the world will be hosted in the City of Gardens, Victoria BC on June 1st and 2nd. This year the event, which will feature both Women’s and Open divisions, will move to Vancouver Island and be run by the Victoria Ultimate Players Society. “We are happy that Flower Bowl has found a home on the Island and look forward to supporting this event as it grows over the next several years” said BC Ultimate General Manager Brian Gisel.

Flower Bowl has a long running tradition of attracting teams from Western Canada and the USA. The event gives teams a good opportunity for early season training. It is also a destination event for several Team Canada squads who look to bring together their squads for an event ahead of World Championship tournaments later in the summer.

We hope to see a good number of teams in Victoria this year, and in the future.

Grand Forks Junior Clinic

BC Ultimate is happy to be helping the Grand Forks ultimate community host a junior development clinic April 6th and 7th. Over 50 junior players are registered to attend this 2 day clinic which will be run by some top BC coaches:

Miu Shiraiwa: Since the summer of 2020, Miu has been coaching with the top junior women’s club, assisting Eclipse to a gold medal at CJUC in 2022 and Dyno in 2023. Some of Miu’s playing achievements include making the U20 Team Canada Women’s team in 2020. Most recently, she won gold with Red Flag at CUC 2023 and represented Canada on the U24 women’s team.

William Tang: Will has been coaching high school and summer club for 3 years. He coached Mischief to a top 8 spot in 2022 and Dyno to a gold medal at CJUC in 2023. For the past few years, Will has been playing with the local men’s team Blackfish.

Alexander Lam: Alex has been coaching in the Jr Club scene for over a decade. Since 2018, he has coached a junior open’s team to CJUC finals, claiming gold in 2019 and 2023. He coached the U20 Team Canada Open’s team in 2022 and is proud to represent the country this year again with the 2024 squad. Alex is also coaching the adult mixed team Red Flag, who were able to claim a silver medal at the 2022 World Ultimate Club Championships and a Gold medal at CUC this year.
As Junior ultimate in BC continues to grow BCU knows that the demand for this kind of development opportunity will only increase and we are working hard with coaches and local communities to help create these clinics for junior players.
