BC Ultimate brings Brian Gisel on board as new General Manager

The BC Ultimate Society is proud to announce the hiring of Brian Gisel as our new General Manager. He takes over the position from our previous GM Troe Weston, who vacated the role to become the new League Manager for the Vancouver Ultimate League. The BCUS Board of Directors would like to thank Troe for her hard work and contributions to the Society, and wish her the best in her new role.

Brian Gisel has been involved with Ultimate in British Columbia for the past 20 years as a player, coach, organizer and administrator. After serving on the BCDSS board for 2 years in the mid-90s, he went on to act as Tournament Director for the 1997 World Ultimate Club Championships. Following that event, he joined the inagrual board of the Vancouver Ultimate League Society and helped to formalize that organization from “casual organization” to “formal Society”.

Brian went on to run Canadian Nationals in 2000 and again in 2004. During this time he joined the Board of Directors of the World Flying Disc Federation and attended several World Championships Events as the WFDF Tournament Technical Director, including the 2005 & 2009 World Games. Following a stint as TD for the 2008 World Ultimate and Guts Championships Brian shifted back to the VUL, joining that organizations board from 2008 to 2012, where he spent 3 years as the President. In 2013 professional Ultimate came calling and Brian signed on as the General Manager of the MLU Vancouver Nighthawks.

On assuming the General Manager role with BC Ultimate, Brian had this to say:

Returning to the provincial PSO for Ultimate is kind of like returning to the beginning for me. I’m happy to get involved with BC Ultimate as their new GM and look forward to helping all the member groups develop and expand Ultimate across the province.

Welcome on board, Brian!
