2023 BCU Bursaries

BC Ultimate would like to thank all the student athletes who applied for our annual Bursary program. Each year BC Ultimate awards $750 Bursaries to Grade 12 students involved in ultimate who are continuing their educations at post-secondary institutions.

This year we got a record setting 25 applications. Considering the interest, the BCU board voted for this year to award 6 rather than our normal 4 Bursaries for a total contribution of $4,500.

The 2023 BCU Bursary award recipients are:

  • Susan Crosby-Schmunk: Ucluelet Secondary, Tofino
  • Samantha Donato: New Westminster Secondary, New Westminster
  • Aaliyah Fernandes: Queen Elizabeth Secondary, Surrey
  • Adam Lemaire: Pleasant Valley Secondary, Armstrong
  • Isabella Lin: Moscrop Secondary, Burnaby
  • Bryelle Wong: Burnaby North Secondary, Burnaby

The inclusion of ultimate in the BC Summer Games follows years of growth of the sport at the High School and Junior levels across the province of British Columbia. In 2023 over 100 High Schools registered teams with BC School Sports, and the number of teams and communities with Junior Club programs continues to grow each year. BC Ultimate, the Provincial Sports Organization responsible for ultimate in BC, is proud of the growth of the sport and the inclusion of ultimate at the 2024 BC Summer Games.
